Went to see the captain..STRANGEST I could find
Nice sound to this board..but with a little background hiss..The more I poke around 82'..the more and more I like it..Some really nice shows from the spring..Solid from start to finish..but I really love the 2nd set to this one..SMOKER!! Brent I believe found his place during this period..The playing is tight and Jerry's voice is pretty good..so please GIVE IT A WHIRL!! Forever Grateful>Forever Dead

Why they opened with One More Saturday Night
I think they forgot to play it the night before in Reno. I was surprised at that omission, and was laughing my ass off when they opened with it in Davis.

Sugaree....in a word...Bouncy!
A bit up tempo and tres groovy! A couple years before my time, but did they really start the show with Saturday night?
Sound is nicely balanced (but Phil could be punched up a bit, imo), and setlist still packs a punch - for sure worth some space on your hard drive!

Solid
Glad to finally hear this I remember seeing the song list for the handbills Mikel used to hand out at the east coast shows around this time - That was the only way apart from going to to know. Anyway, solid Bird Song, Ramble on Rose, Althea, Let it Grow, Great Sampson, Scarlet>Fire, and like the space in to NFA. Not as good as that last night at the Greek but ntg else from this year even comes close + glad to finally hear this 24 years later.
*** One thing I will add as an aside is this is an interesting time for the band it almost feels as though they are making an effort to turn their back on the Arista reincarnation of their shows 10 song first set 4 before drums>space>3 out and then encore into something closer to the '78 format. In the end, it was too easy to just fall into that pattern and indeed this is how they played until the end.

Overwhelmed by Sound quality and performance
Crystal clear sound.I'm used to hearing Frost 82 shows and this new 82 sound from March really penetrates my
hard-drive.1982 had a zen
function.and not as Space-aged as 1981 or wild and complicated as 1983,it has a western twang to it.Sugaree is
refreshing.82 has some of the best Looks like rains.Let it grow is fast without sounding like they where in a hurry, The drums and cymbals are so well defined during Let it grow. Jerry guitar tone is clean and dynamic. Anybody know what kind of amps they used in 1982? Samson is teaming with energy,Playin jam is zen-like.Scarlet is hot! Not fade away out of space is a 2nd set highlight. U.S. Blues blazes too. 5 for quality 5 for 4 1/2 for performance

Brent Solo Lights Fire
I love the Grateful Dead - If I ever don't like a show I more liken it to how my palate reacts to different flavors. One day I might like the taste of something - another day the experience is different. But my point for this review is to spotlight the unsual. Seamless Playin->Scarlet->Fire->Drums. Never heard that before. Throw in the only Brent solo during Fire I've heard and you got reason to download. I always enjoy the unusually placed Brent solos and if you do too, you may also enjoy the one he does in 8-19-80 (Uptown) Estimated Prophet or the 7-10-81 (St. Paul Civic) Jam out of Eyes into drums.

Breathe....
This show was a fun night but what stands out is that after that scorchin' "Let it Grow", Healy decided to give us a nice rendition of "Dark Side of the Moon" during the break. Lots of smiles during this break......and check out the Phil bombs on "Sugar Magnolia". Phil's Birthday the next day and he was starting to party.

Nice SBD: Unique set list
This show is very very hot!!
The setlist in the second set especially features some very nice transitions, however, the intro on scarlet out of playin is tight yet rushed and jerry starts to sing before the rest of the band is ready to play the lyrical chords.
Nevertheless this second set has great sound and whats more is that the mix of the tape is even keeled- nice bass, drums and brent's keys are fresh on the scarlet.
I would give this 4.5 stars but will round down
and yes, agree with others here, its a 4 star sound quality and 4 star show all around.

Dudes Right
California, Choke your chicken! Sound was good, center aisle seats last row on floor. Right next to the Designated dance area. I'm sorry, we have too many people dancing right now. But this was an upstairs/downstairs event. A couple of freaks(I use that term with affection) took one for the team. Thanks. It got a little looser after the Fire Marshal left and the Football players decided to pull back, set up a defensive perimeter and watch. They were dosed, And now were at the mercy of the pros. A lot of good folks spent the show babysitting the security. Everybody left with a smile.
Bobby started the night saying "Here's one we forgot to play last night". As one who drove through the cold rain and snow to see both of these events I appreciated his concern. Does any one have a list of other songs the band forgot to play?
This is home turf and I hope you have happy memories from my neighborhood.

solid '82 show
This is a nice, well played show with a solid setlist. Perhaps not as energetic as the previous night in Reno but worthy of a download. What I recall most about this show is horrible acoustics up in the GA balconey and an unbelievably over-zealous security staff made up of Aggie Football players. Some of the biggest A'holes I've ever seen were running the show here. It's not surprising the band never returned. The soundboard recordings go a long way in erasing that experience.
